This is going to be a long one! We have much to share with you: lots of gratitude, a teeny nudge toward activism, and of course, our upcoming shows (which we saved to the end.)
First, the report on our March 23 ACLU fundraiser at San Gregorio: Thank you so much to everyone who took part. Speaker Danny Sheehan painted a frightening yet convincing picture basically cautioning us that if we do nothing, say nothing, or look the other way, fascism will take over, resulting in many of us opening our wallets. We raised over $15,000 for the ACLU Foundation in support of their continued defense (and offense) on behalf of democracy in our courts.
On to Adventures in Radioland: We spent several months promoting our 2024 releases with the help of Dennis McNally (author, historian, and Grateful Dead expert), and were kept very busy with radio interviews. We want to thank the following DJs of non-commercial radio stations for interviewing us, making us sound smart, and playing our music. Feel free to check the stations out yourself!
Greg Cotterill at WEOS, Finger Lakes Public Radio, upstate NY. Greg gave us 2 interviews, one for Henry's Hideaway and one for Amerikinda. An NPR station, we had to fit in with the syndicated heavy hitters such as Democracy Now and the student programs at college radio sister station WHWS. We really appreciated Greg's efforts to get us on the air. What a nice guy!
Marc Greene - Fermented Radio, WUSB, Stony Brook, NY - Another great guy who also gave us 2 interviews as well as an archive copy of the Henry's Hideaway interview.
Dave Golden - Radio Golden, WPKN, Bridgeport, CT - a sandwich of jazz and jam with a freeform garnish. Delicious!
Doug Jayne and Kevin Russell at KRCB, Rohnert Park, CA These two are neighborhood heroes to us! Plus, keep an ear out for their band, Jayne Russell! Plus plus, go to HopMonk Sebastopol on Wednesday nights and enjoy the great free shows Kevin hosts.
Mike Flynn - Almost Acoustic, WUML, Lowell, MA - University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Where underground music lives and where both our records were given a listen. Though we technically reside on the right side of the grass, we are proud to qualify as underground.
Andy Goldfinger - Music Gumbo, KOFC, Eugene OR Fern Ridge Community Radio - tune in from anywhere in the world!
Steve Ross at KAXE, Grand Rapids, MN - the oldest NPR station in the United States!
Jackie Loken - Moonlight Trail, KKUP, Cupertino, CA - eclectic community radio. Jackie kindly invited us to do a live show. Can't wait to go back!
Fred Reiss - If I Could Only Remember, WLFR, Stockton University, Galloway NJ - Lake Fred Radio. The show goes forward into the past and backwards in the future. Where space and time go into the ozone.... and we were right at home! Fred was very supportive of us, and gave us 2 interviews.
Kellie Morlock's Coastside Carousel - KHMB, Half Moon Bay, CA Kellie is another neighborhood hero to us. You can hear her sing too, with Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir.

Chris Cowles- Greasy Tracks, WRTC, Hartford, CT. Chris allowed us "under the radar artists" to stick our heads up over the radar.
John Murphy - On the Homefront podcast, WILI - WECS Eastern CT - this interview looked at us through a lens focused on us as artists that are not famous but have played with famous people and have a musical identity of our own.
Aaron Schafer - No Simple Road podcast started out a Grateful Dead podcast and grew to include the whole music scene. We were honored to be included in the No Simple Road family of freaks, heads, weirdos, misfits, dabblers, and wildcards.
D.R. Froeschner - Sounds of Jazz and Cat Jazz Barn, KOPN Columbia, MO - This man never sleeps with one show at 3 pm and one at 3 am.
Paul West - Grateful Shuffle, WDVX, Knoxville TN. And grateful we were, to be shuffled into Paul's eclectic collection!
Tim Ditchley - The Free Zone, WICR, University of Indianapolis, IN. The middle of the night, around 2 am, but that's only 11 pm here in California!
Andrew Stauffer - Backtracks, KBCS, Belleville WA. Two solid hours of The Grateful Dead and related, influenced and associated music. We thank Andrew for being open-eared enough to include us in the "associated" category and being kind enough to give us a chance.
Susan Balter-Reitz - Dead of Night, KEMC, Yellowstone Public Radio, Billings, MT Our only interview with a woman was a comprehensive session unearthing and memorializing the influence of the Grateful Dead on us and our lives. Through the magic of Ms. Balter-Reitz' interviewing and editing skills, we managed to sound half way intelligent.
Sandy Weinmann - Deadbeat, KPFT, Houston TX. This is Houston's community radio station. Note from the schedule you can listen to Sandy on Saturday afternoons 2 pm Texas Time.
Every one of these stations offers a refreshing alternative to networks and streaming services that are fed their programming from music-product-generating conglomerates, not to mention Breitbart, FoxNews, NewsMax, and the hatemongers. Our non-commercial stations are endangered. Efforts to defund NPR and PBS, as well as to destroy pathways to Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion, represent significant threats to their continued existence. And we all know the list of infringements on our personal rights is growing daily (refer to Danny Sheehan, above). But we are not powerless.
